There are only two ways of fixing information.
Nature has invented only one method of fixation of information - human consciousness, its operational and agreed memory. But since memory is not as reliable storage of information to solve specific and even more long-term task in the process of evolution has invented the second method is collecting information in some physical medium: stone, parchment, rock, and of course on paper.
