To the researcher and respondents spoke the same language and understand each other in the questionnaire it is necessary to formulate control questions. For example, after the question "please Tell me, how big your home library?" (answer: "Great") were asked the following question: "wouldn't You call the approximate number of books in Your library?" (answer: "About 100 books"). The security question we determine that the Respondent understands under "large library". Analyzing his presentation of the "big library" and correlating it with common sense or understanding of the researcher, it is possible to determine some qualities of the Respondent, e.g., whether he wishes to present himself in a more favorable light.
Thus, in order to determine the correctness of the Respondent's understanding of a phenomenon it is necessary to relate with others with understanding. This different understanding may be the point of view of the researcher. Correlating the answers with his view that a sociologist can make a conclusion as far as the Respondent correctly understands the phenomenon being studied. But strictly speaking, neither the researcher nor the Respondent can not claim that their understanding is true, i.e. as far as the understanding of the phenomenon under study a researcher and a Respondent coincides with this understanding, which reflects objective reality. The sociologist, of course, can accept their point of view as the true and fully meet research objectives, but it does not prove that his understanding corresponds to objective reality. It is necessary to introduce a third criterion. For example, to base such an understanding of the phenomenon of the object, which is accepted in the scientific literature and which got a good test in numerous sociological studies. As a criterion it is possible to take the understanding of the phenomena object of some expert group. This is typical for cases when it is necessary to determine poorly developed concept. This creates as if coordinating the mesh, where the respondents find their place and have clear coordinates.
Public opinion is a special world with its domestic laws and dialectics of development. How public opinion is formed? How it affects public consciousness and behavior? What objective processes reflect? Ultimately, all single people, endowed with consciousness, will, with value orientations that are interested in the solution of certain problems, having a realistic idea of how to achieve your goals. In turn the objective reality independent of the consciousness of the individual, influences the formation of public opinion and public consciousness. The connection of these phenomena is very complex and still not fully understood. However, it is safe to say that only a comprehensive, close reading of the explanation of performance and the actual behavior in their relationship to each other allows to clarify the role of both in the problem under study, to identify the causes of particular phenomena.
Often, because of understanding the essential difference between two forms of social life, namely the perfect presentation and real-time behaviors, they are mixed, and then the motives as causes of behavior. The answers of respondents on the motives of behavior are often made by sociologists over the causes, the result are given unreasonable advice. Ideal and real behavior of people, their installation and actions may not coincide completely or partially and to be even opposite to each other.
Of course, was it not possible that the study of motives does not reveal the real reasons. Motives contain more or less than share information, which reflects to some extent the real processes through the study of which it is possible to find the approach to identifying causes of behavior.
