However, it is obvious that this decrease of speed is required would determine
education in highly elliptical orbits more elliptical than
any known to us now. It seems to me the most
a serious objection of all encountered so far. Still, taking
note that, in all probability, there is still a huge number
some of the planetoids, it is likely that among them will be such
orbit which will meet this requirement.
Note V. Shortly before the revision of the previous experience my friends when
two cases mentioned the wonderful photographic images of misty
of the masses, recently obtained by Mr. Isaac Roberts, and exhibited in
The Royal Astronomical Society, and they suggested that
these images represent exactly what Laplace could use
to illustrate his hypothesis, Mr. Roberts has kindly sent me pictures from the
photos, and several others illustrating the evolution of stars. Those
the photos, which depict a large nebulous mass in Andromeda and Canum
Venaticorum and 81 and Messier, and striking, and instructive, as
illustrate the Genesis of nebulous rings round a Central mass.
But I can, however, be noted that these photos seem to suggest
the idea of the necessity of some changes in the conventional concept,
because they quite clearly show that this process is not so
monotonous, as suggested by the Conventional notion is that to
the appearance of rings, forming planets, there is a huge rotating
a spheroid. But both pictures seem to indicate that, at least
in some cases, part of the nebulous matter constituting the ring,
take some form before they reach the Central mass.
It seems possible that movement of these partly
formed, rings, keep them closer to the body they
surround and which still retains its irregular shape.
Whatever it was, however, no matter what the size of the emerging
systems (and it seems necessary to conclude that they are much more than our
Solar system), the process remains in essence the same. Process
this is currently reproduced experimentally, and we have reason
to say that the doctrine of the Genesis of the misty mass is transferred from the realm of hypothesis
the area established truth.
