So, returning to the misty ring, we
ask and sometimes how it happened that each part is vague
matter which gave rise to a separate planetoid sgustilis and then separated,
got movement around the Sun is so characterized by its eccentricity and
inclination from the movements of their neighbors? Then is still the question of how
managed this part of the misty ring uplotnitelya in planetoid,
to fight their way through all the differently-moving like masses of nebulous
matter and keep their individuality? It seems to me that you can not even
imagine the answer to these questions. We now turn to another hypothesis.
In a revision of the previous experience and prepare for the new edition
published in the 1883 volume, which placed this experience, I was struck by the idea that
the study of distributions and movements of the planetoids must have some understanding of them
origin. If, as suggested by Olbers, they were due to rupture
planets, when rotating in the area occupied by them now
the conclusion will be as follows. First, the fragments should be more abundant in
the space closest to the initial orbit of the planet itself, and less
rich far from it. Second, large fragments should be
relatively few, while the number of small fragments should be increased by
decreasing their size; third, as some of the smaller pieces
had to be thrown farther than large, the greatest evasion in
average distance from average distance of the original planet will be
the smallest members of that cluster, and, fourth, most of these small
members will have orbits that differ from the rest in eccentricity and
inclination. In the fourth edition of the writings of chambers "Guide
descriptive and practical astronomy" (the first volume of which has only recently
was released) is a list of items (taken from the Berlin
Astronomical year-book for 1890 ), all the small planets (number 281),
which were opened before the end of 1888 the Visible luminosity, expressed
their respective values, is the only indication
likely comparative size of great majority of planetoids
the only exceptions are some of the first open planetoids.
