In the context of these ideas and are born the works of P. Bitsilli. At the time
he was Professor of the Novorossiysky University, Odessa
Polytechnic Institute. Emigrated in 1920 and 1924 works
Professor of General history at Sofia University. Today on the street
the shelves of Sofia can be seen reprints of his works.
The book "Elements of medieval culture" (P. BitsilliElements
medieval culture. -- Odessa, 1919) uses to describe
the medieval world two key parameters -- the symbolism and hierarchism.
P. Bitsilli highlights: "the middle Ages created a symbolic
visual arts and symbolic poetry, has created a rich
extremely complex and delicately designed with symbols of a religious cult and
philosophy, reduced to the comprehension and the disclosure of the symbolic meaning
reality. Symbolic acts are accompanied by actions
with which medieval man may enter into legal relations with
their own kind, and symbolic signs marked most of the objects it
items. Even sinful coin says holding it in the hands of the eternal truths
embossed her images of mystic rose, a three-lobed Lily --
sign of the triune God or of the ball -- symbol of eternity or perfection"

The comprehensive nature of the surrounding medieval human symbols
is that not only the creation of man are treated as characters, and
any thing, as the man himself brought before the eyes of the medieval mind
