Elizabeth Noel in the book "Mass surveys. Introduction to the methodology of demoskopie" on the first pages of a section on the questionnaire, wrote: "Formulation of questions "the questionnaire" is not the first step in the study, which usually starts with defining goals, objectives and the investigated (target) questions. This first phase many studies are very short and its critical importance as a special phase is not always recognized in full. Kind of looking forward to focusing all research participants on the design of a questionnaire like this is the only solution to the problem. Lack of understanding of the importance of the preparatory phase, as well as the underestimation of the difficulties in the preparation of the questionnaire appear that sometimes do not consider it necessary to define a research problem, justify the need for a representative study, but instead prefer to "invent" profile".
Often faced with this problem in Russian sociology. It is a disease of many young sociologists. Eager to get results so great that they choose, as it seems, the shortest path, starting from the "compose" form.
At first glance, and in fact, the design of a questionnaire is not a big deal, and formulating questions - great wisdom. After all, in life we daily ask each other dozens, if very curious, and more questions. So why not to do the questionnaire? And that takes a blank sheet of paper, pencil, pen and begins "fantastic" work: the questionnaire and the questions are compiled on an intuitive level, the authors proceed from everyday ideas about what should and what should not. I'm not afraid to say that this is a typical method of young sociologists (which was sinful and the author himself), so often have to deal with it.
Of course, getting to work on the questionnaire, sociologist are already familiar, albeit in General terms, that he wants to explore. Specifically, on what the particular question which he occupies a place in the General system of logical analysis, an aspiring sociologist most often can't answer.
