So, studying the problems of staff retention and decreasing turnover among miners coal mines of Ekibastuz (Pavlodar region), we, along with the statements of the respondents about the reasons for dismissal received a fairly complete and rich picture of the relationship of population to their city. Analysis of the judgment revealed a sharply negative attitude to the city, not only the absence of pride, but even of respect for him. Answers to the open questions showed that the city no one cares that the city has no master ("Ekibastuz is a large station, where no host" - this is one of the typical statements). Does not bother anyone nor the present, nor the future of this city, people do not see prospects of its development, etc. This situation was one of the reasons of population migration to other cities. A simple list of answers, responses to open-ended questions without a detailed analysis of the leaves, as a rule, a great impression.
However, open-ended questions, as well as other types of questions, we have border use. In particular, they do not allow to address some specific research tasks. Not always through direct opinion of the respondents can go to the explanation of the true, underlying causes of behavior as due to an incomplete understanding man certain phenomena that determine its behavior, or unwillingness to disclose them, and because of their prestige or of an intimate nature. If we for example will ask about the reasons of divorce, most respondents will indicate in the responses to the open questions, the reasons of sexual character (sexual frustration), although, as studies show that this factor is quite significant in stabilizing the family.
An open question is always difficult for the Respondent. Not all respondents are ready for such work and many shy away from it. On average, open questions are answered from 40 to 70% depending on the nature of the question.
