So, family stability and marital satisfaction depend not only on personal characteristics and social environment spouses, but also from a system of values, perceptions and expectations of each partner. As they say, want to be happy, change the starting point.
It is important that the researcher always remembered about the relativity of the essential content of the phenomenon under study, the difficulties of its knowledge and believed that the obtained answers are already objective truth. This is often, unfortunately, it happens with budding sociologists. Sometimes, making a set of alternatives and receiving replies, sociologists with an easy mind use figures, giving them meaningful value, and being convinced of their truth. The reports typically write: as the study showed, the main causes of marriage, according to the respondents of the newlyweds, is the love between the spouses and mutual understanding. It is possible that this is true, but such a categorical conclusion can be drawn only after a full investigation of the whole complex of motivations.
In the questionnaires, as a rule, the social scientist operates on closed questions, since, as mentioned, is the only way to determine the conceptual content of the questionnaire question. To Express the conceptual content was a difficult task, not always fully perceived by the researcher. Not by chance in the sociological literature analyses the closed questions, as a rule, only from the point of view of convenience of use by them (Respondent o-dentam easier to answer them compared to answers to open questions), they are easier to encode, process and analyze, i.e. they are convenient from a purely technical side. And not always to the closed questions are suitable from the point of view of the decision of one or another consistent problem.
I must say a few words about the semi-closed question, i.e. this type of question, where the Respondent is given the opportunity to add your own answer if none of the proposed alternatives do not reflect his opinions. Usually in this case, is a note: "What else, write..." or "otherwise, write..." etc.
It should be noted immediately that the semi-closed questions, as shown by sociological practice and methodological experiments do not give the desired effect. They are most often placed in the form, so to speak, for conscience ' sake, by showing that, say, we can't press the Respondent, give him the opportunity to Express their opinions. But respondents rarely use this opportunity only 10-15% of respondents add your answer to the question in addition to the proposed alternatives. This limited the number of responses typically does not allow for their meaningful analysis. Besides the semi-closed question usually responds with a subset of respondents, for example, with a high level of education and able to work with printed texts.
This restricts meaningful use of this question type. Moreover, the additional answers are private, specific nature, which does not allow in most cases to build a more or less acceptable typology.
